Action Strategy

PARAYAS Society (Participatory Action for Rural Advancement and Youth Awareness) works directly with local communities and action groups by involving the people especially women Organizations, youth, Students, Teachers, Folk Artiste and marginal farmer in Sirmaur, Una, Solan, Shimla and Dehradun Districts of Himachal Pradesh and Uttrakhand.

§ Objectives:

· To make use of the services of the graduates and students on rational bases in the agriculture, medical educational and other services /activities of the societies.

· To inculcate the youths with energetic ideas to planning, common welfare programmes.

· To organize and conduct training courses for the students and other people in rural development.

· To work for backward and disseminated people like poor families women and children.

· To do other lawful things as may be incidental to or conductive to the attainment of the above objects.

· To under take management and execution of the objects of the society. To assist or take assistance/loan Govt. and Non- Govt. Funding agencies of national and international level and collaborate with other institution with similar activities in India or elsewhere.

· To make effort for the empowerment by organizing them at the platform of Self-help group formation, micro-credits for their socio-economic development, health, education and legal rights.

§ Activities of the Society:

· Community Needs Assessment Study: Community Need Assessment study under Targeted Intervention Project for Men who have Sex with Men (MSM) in and around Paonta Sahib; and UNA & Surrounding Areas during the year 2011-2012 sanctioned to PARAYAS by HPSACS.

Ø Community served: Men who have Sex with Men (MSM)

Ø Objectives: The objective was to assess the needs of MSM in relation to sexual health, including their knowledge and awareness about HIV and other STIs and sexual health services in the area under study.

Ø Strategies: The multiple research methods were used to gather information on local attitudes and norms, risks and protective factors, and existing and potential interventions from multiple stakeholders.

Ø Main Outcomes: The prevalence of MSM activity was assessed in the area.

Ø Evaluation methods employed: The methods for need assessment included focus group discussion, key informant interviews and survey.

Ø Evaluation results: The evaluation results were submitted to the HPSACS in the study report.

· Rural Development: The Voluntary organization is working since 2002 in the fields of rural development. At present the organisaton is working on women Self Help Group formation & development, Women Awareness Generation Programme, general awareness on National rural employment guarantee programme, rural environment awareness campaigns and agriculture development. The organization has good experience of working in the rural sector and relevant experienced manpower available to implement the programme.

· Micro Insurance: The Voluntary organization is working in district Sirmour since last five year in the fields of LIC (Micro Insurance Jeewan Madhur policy) programme for BPL families since 2007-2008.

· AGP: Other programmes include Awareness Generation Programme (AGP) sponsored by Himachal Pradesh State Social Welfare Board (SSWB).

· Condensed Course: Condensed Course Programme of education for adult women sponsored by Central Social Welfare Board (CSWB) is being implemented for the last two years.

· Environment: National Environment Awareness Campaign (NEAC) sponsored by Himachal Pradesh State Council for Science, Technology and Environment is organised every year.

· The Community Needs Assessment study under Targeted Intervention Project for MSM was conducted in Paonta and Surrounding Areas, as well as in Una and Surrounding Areas in the year 2011-12.

· The micro-insurance project covers all the development blocks of the Sirmour district.

· The Condensed Course under CSWB is being implemented in village Matyala in Gram Panchayat Panar, Tehsil Nahan, District Sirmour, H.P.

· The awareness campaigns are carried out in various villages of Sirmour district.
